The SP and SP-E flush-mounted systems are mainly suitable for newly constructed buildings, but they can also be used in existing buildings after proper lintel preparation.
After the façade is finished, the box remains invisible because its front serves as a base for the selected finishing material, such as plaster.
They must be considered at the design stage, which allows their functionality to be fully utilised. They do not interfere with the structure of windows, doors, or lintels, which helps maintain the building’s thermal performance and improves insulation.
The inspection cover and guides can be colour-matched to the window joinery. Various types of profiles can be used in these systems – foam-filled profiles, plastic profiles, or extruded versions. It is also possible to install an insect screen that blocks insects while allowing light and air to pass through.

The main advantages of SP and SP-E flush-mounted shutters having the Passive House Institute (PHI) certification from Darmstadt include confirmation of their exceptionally high energy efficiency and suitability for energy-efficient construction. The certificate guarantees that shutter boxes sized 165 mm or smaller, when installed correctly, minimise thermal bridging. Achieving such a level of insulation means that these shutters do not affect the building’s energy balance and effectively protect against heat loss, which is crucial in low-energy buildings. The PHI certificate also allows these shutters to be used together with windows that meet strict passive house requirements. In practice, this means that SP and SP-E shutters are an ideal solution for investors aiming to achieve the highest thermal insulation standards and lower heating costs, which is one of the goals of passive construction.
